Take me to the stars
Treading Lightly
Good Heavens is on a mission to share the wonders of Aotea’s spectacular night sky while fiercely protecting the island we call home. Operating within an International Dark Sky Sanctuary—one of the darkest places on Earth—is a privilege that drives everything we do.
Because Aotea is a fragile ecosystem home to precious taonga (endangered species) like the banded rail, tāiko, pāteke, and kākā, we consciously tread lightly during every experience. We choose low-waste, reusable, and solar-recharged equipment—even our laser pointers are powered by the sun. Join us to experience the stars responsibly and learn how we can all combat light pollution together.
Community & Environment
Good Heavens proudly invests in the heart of Great Barrier Island by supporting local organisations, community events, and environmental education. Every year, we set aside a dedicated percentage of our profits to fund these initiatives. We firmly believe that a thriving, healthy island relies on people joining forces, learning together, and working toward the common good.
Whether this is a lifelong dream or a one-night spark of wonder, Good Heavens guarantees a cosmic experience etched into your memory forever.
Meet the team
Now that you know our business story, we would love to introduce ourselves—the women behind Good Heavens. We are Deborah and Hilde. While you will usually find one of us leading your tour, we have also built a small and incredible team of passionate, fun, and personable guides who step in when the skies get busy.
Our journey began in 2017, the moment Great Barrier Island was named an International Dark Sky Sanctuary. We knew visitors would love a guided path through the cosmos, and since that day, we have been absolutely thrilled to share our corner of the universe with thousands of star-lovers.
Ever since we decided to become stargazing guides, we have been studying the cosmos non-stop. We have carefully curated the most mind-blowing space facts, breathtaking celestial objects, and unforgettable stories to share. We are incredibly proud to bring you an experience that is as entertaining as it is educational.
