Because Aotea is a fragile ecosystem home to precious taonga (endangered species) like the banded rail, tāiko, pāteke, and kākā, we consciously tread lightly during every experience. We choose low-waste, reusable, and solar-recharged equipment—even our laser pointers are powered by the sun. Now that you know our business story, we would love to introduce ourselves—the women behind Good Heavens. We are Deborah and Hilde. While you will usually find one of us leading your tour, we have also built a small and incredible team of passionate, fun, and personable guides who step in when the skies get busy.
Our journey began in 2017, the moment Great Barrier Island was named an International Dark Sky Sanctuary. We knew visitors would love a guided path through the cosmos, and since that day, we have been absolutely thrilled to share our corner of the universe with thousands of star-lovers.
Ever since we decided to become stargazing guides, we have been studying the cosmos non-stop. We have carefully curated the most mind-blowing space facts, breathtaking celestial objects, and unforgettable stories to share.
